Did you know Wallingford Garden Club maintains four public gardens in town? We also give a scholarship, teach youth programs, provide senior activities, weed out invasive plants in public areas, host speakers open to the public, run an annual plant sale and we have lots of fun!

Save the Date ANNUAL PLANT SALE Sunday May 17th

We have a new location with easier parking

and a new day on Sunday!

Same fabulous plant sale in our 95th year

with healthy plants from our members own gardens.

Get all the best advice from experienced gardeners.

We'll have our Garden Treasures Table again this year,

it was a hit last year!

New and gently used gardening, yard and home items.

May is Invasive Species Awareness Month

Focus on how to identify non-native plants and pests that harm our ecosystems. Learn proactive management such as removing invasive plants and using native alternatives when planting in your yard or garden, and asking your town to do the same. WGC has removed invasive plants from Tyler Mill Preserve as well as the 4 public gardens we maintain in Wallingford.

Garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata) is a highly destructive, shade-tolerant biennial herb spreading rapidly across the US now.

It outcompetes native plants and destroys forest biodiversity by dominating the understory. One plant can produce over 7,000 seeds that stay viable for up to 10 years.  Pull it out from the roots anytime you see it.  Leaves are edible although bitter!

Why It Is a Major Problem

  • Early Spread: It emerges earlier in spring than native plants, hogging sunlight and nutrients.
  • Allelopathic Chemicals: It releases chemicals into the soil that inhibit the growth of native plants and beneficial mycorrhizal fungi.
  • Threat to Biodiversity: It displaces native wildflowers and tree seedlings, disrupting insects and wildlife.
  • Deer Avoidance: White-tailed deer avoid eating it, choosing to eat native plants instead, which gives garlic mustard even more advantage.

Fine Art, Flowers and Verse June 5 & 6, 2026

The Fine Arts, Flower, and Verse Show at the Wallingford Senior Center is a unique showcase combining art in three mediums.

Wallingford Garden Club floral designers creatively interpret paintings from Wallingford Senior Center artists through stunning floral arrangements, while poets from the Saturday Morning Wallingford Public Library Poetry Group craft versees inspired by each piece of art.

This show honors the late Marilyn Ollayos who left generous bequests to the Senior Center, Garden Club and Library.

An additional art show at the Senior Center complements this unique and collaborative artistic celebration.

Any member can join in, so ask MaryEllen M. to get on her email list for notices of which garden we'll work in next week, for about an hour as many hands make light work.
